History

Handycat was established in 1996 with the intention of providing services and products for people with mental, physical or sensory impairments.

Jaume Bargalló is Handycat’s main character, who thanks to his previous experience in the toy industry and his special sensitivity to people with disabilities, was interested in looking around Europe for the best products for those children with special disabilities: autism, dyslexia, ... or any other type of intellectual disability, physical or sensory impairment.

Specifically, it was at the fair in Nuremberg, Germany, where Jaume found a swing for disabled people, a very interesting product that could bring moments of happiness and comfort to many people with special needs.

And so with the help of his partner Teresa Cisa, in 1996 they decided to start offering this product in Spain, creating a small business, which soon began to grow, with more employees and a more extensive catalogue. After a short period they showed multisensory rooms, to encourage sensory stimulation according to the principles of the Snoezelen method that was spreading successfully in Europe, becoming the pioneer in Spain of sensory stimulation rooms.

Over the months, Snoezelen rooms for multisensory stimulation gained rapid acceptance, not only in special schools where the innovation quickly spread  but also in other special care centers, health care centers and, more recently, in nursing homes.

Handycat has developed multi-sensory rooms in over 300 centers throughout Spain, and currently is a company exclusively dedicated, focused and specialized in bringing the concept of Snoezelen and sensory stimulation spaces to all individuals and families that can benefit from it, raise awareness, facilitating installation and performance by continuously improving their work and to promote joint research with professional institutions.
