Introduction

"Snoezelen is the recreation of real life moments for different people."

Since its origin it has become another way to address the disabled person and very positive developments have been achieved through relaxation and multisensory stimulation.

The Snoezelen concept is closely related to the environment. This must meet certain characteristics and define it as multisensory.

The main objective of multisensory space environment is to learn how to "rediscover" the disabled person and trying to establish a relationship, whether verbal or not.

In the majority of occasions, it addresses the creation of this environment in a physical space inside a room where you have a number of elements aimed at stimulating the senses and a calm atmosphere to provide us with protection. These are multi-sensory stimulation rooms.

Imagine an empty room. Install items such as mattresses and cushions on the floor and soft protection against the walls. Then filled with equipment that draw the attention of the 5 senses such as a projector of images, a touch panel, diffuser aromas, music, water bed, etc..

Let’s put ourselves on top of the water bed, relax and let ourselves be carried away by our feelings. The resulting satisfaction leads to a multiple variety of desirable behavior, since the pressures and anxieties are forgotten, resulting in a resting state positively affecting muscle tone.

Increasingly, studies show that multi-sensory stimulation rooms are an excellent solution, which provides welfare and evolution to a vast range of people, but very specifically to those that suffer from anxiety, stress, etc, or those with very severe disabilities or with an intellectual disability, sensory or physical, with mental health problems or simply for those who need a few minutes of relaxation and escape.

Multi-sensory stimulation rooms can be directed to a wide audience. In fact, everyone, whatever their status, can enjoy and benefit. In this sense, it can be used to awaken pleasant feelings in a worker to escape from stress of everyday life.

Each room has its own identity and uniqueness, as it is created according to the needs of their clients. For example, rooms can be directed to the elderly, Alzheimer's, people with intellectual disabilities, young children, and so on.
